Uber readily exists in the San Jose metropolitan area covering San Jose, Alajuela, Heredia and Cartago. There are also a few Ubers in Jaco, Quepos, Liberia, Tamarindo , La Fortuna and Manuel Antonio. Honestly, once you get to Tamarindo you don’t really need a car , so I wouldn’t recommend going this route unless you have plans to go to another area later. If you do rent a car and are only going to Tamarindo , you do not need a 4×4 vehicle if you take the correct route.

Tamarindo Beach – Tamarindo Beach is one of Costa Rica’s (and Latin America’s) most popular beaches . It is the biggest beach town in the area, and it’s an ideal beach for surfing, swimming and people watching. There is not much shade, or dry spots to put a towel in the sand, so it’s not great for sunbathing.
Sand quality is better in Tamarindo so the beach is prettier. Jaco has a dark, fine brown sand that makes the beach look dirty. However, if you get your focus off the sand and take in the whole scene, Jaco is quite beautiful – it’s a large bay flanked by rainforests on both ends and surrounded by mountains.
