Uber readily exists in the San Jose metropolitan area covering San Jose, Alajuela, Heredia and Cartago. There are also a few Ubers in Jaco, Quepos, Liberia, Tamarindo , La Fortuna and Manuel Antonio. As of April 2019, Uber has announced it will expand to other destinations like La Fortuna and Liberia.
Honestly, once you get to Tamarindo you don’t really need a car , so I wouldn’t recommend going this route unless you have plans to go to another area later. If you do rent a car and are only going to Tamarindo , you do not need a 4×4 vehicle if you take the correct route.
You should visit Tamarindo if you’re in the mood for an alternative to a standard, packaged beach vacation. Tamarindo is small enough to make you feel like part of the local vibe right away.
Tamarindo Beach – Tamarindo Beach is one of Costa Rica’s (and Latin America’s) most popular beaches . It is the biggest beach town in the area, and it’s an ideal beach for surfing, swimming and people watching. There is not much shade, or dry spots to put a towel in the sand, so it’s not great for sunbathing.
Sand quality is better in Tamarindo so the beach is prettier. Jaco has a dark, fine brown sand that makes the beach look dirty. However, if you get your focus off the sand and take in the whole scene, Jaco is quite beautiful – it’s a large bay flanked by rainforests on both ends and surrounded by mountains.
